PUK: Stance of South Kurdistan Parliament is shameful | ANF
The PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) group in the South Kurdistan regional parliament has issued a written statement entitled: "A public statement to the Speaker of Parliament and the public regarding the situation in Rojava and Kobanê” criticising the parliament for ‘violating its own regulations’ and describing its silence regarding the resistance in Kobanê as shameful.
The PUK statement said: "Today the Canton of Kobanê is going through a grave time. A month and a half ago we called for an emergency meeting of the Regional Kurdistan Parliament. However, unfortunately, the Speaker, who does not feel the gravity of the situation in Rojava and has violated parliamentary regulations, has not responded to our proposal and convened a meeting. The Speaker could also have appointed a delegation to visit Rojava. This would have had a moral and material meaning for the people who are resisting. But he preferred to remain silent.”
The PUK group statement continued by mentioning the embargo and closure of borders that had caused serious difficulties for the people of Rojava prior to the attacks, adding that the parliament had not assisted the Rojava Cantons to open offices in the Federal Kurdistan Region. The statement continued thus: "While today there is an attack and invasion of Kobanê and the civilians are being displaced, the Parliamentary Speaker is only now proposing to send a parliamentary delegation to Kobanê ".
The PUK group statement added that although they would participate in the delegation, they considered it to be too late to ameliorate the suffering of the people of Kobanê.
Calling on the Parliament to allow the Cantons of Rojava to open offices in the South and urged the Speaker to convene an extraordinary meeting of Parliament, the PUK group made the following demands from such a meeting:
- For a force to be sent to Kobanê within 72 hours,
-To meet the urgent military needs of Rojava,
-For all border crossings to be opened immediately for aid,
-For approval to be given for the opening of representative offices by the Rojava Cantons in South Kurdistan
